MBCOM Technologies announces Symantec Cloud Secure Web Gateway availability in Southern Africa
Latest expansion on Google Cloud Platform offers enhanced data residency and user experience throughout region
MBCOM Technologies have announced exciting developments for clients old and new in the Southern African region. The Symantec Cloud Secure Web Gateway (SWG), available via MBCOM Technologies, is now available in Google Cloud’s Johannesburg, South Africa data center. The South Africa Point of Presence (POP) addresses local data processing requirements while significantly enhancing internet performance and the user experience.
Data Residency
The new Johannesburg Cloud SWG expansion comes shortly after similar new POP openings in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Milan and Madrid. Now that this is complete, Qatar is expected to follow next. As digital transformation accelerates across the countries of Southern Africa, the demand for secure, high-performance web gateway services that comply with local data residency regulations is increasing.
MBCOM Technologies’ collaboration with Google Cloud ensures that the company can offer a solution that not only meets these requirements but also delivers outstanding web security and performance. In a 2022 study by the Tolly Group, Symantec cloud security was able to demonstrate better performance with Google Cloud than unsecured traffic routed over the public internet.[1]
“At MBCOM we are excited about the upcoming availability of Google Cloud in Southern African and the opportunity we have now to bring Symantec Cloud Secure Web Gateway to businesses in the region” explained Andries Lategan, CTO, MBCOM Technologies. “By using these Broadcom solutions, you will benefit from the local expertise and personalized support we offer, backed by the reliability and scalability of Google Cloud.”
New Localization Zones
As Google Cloud Platform continues to grow, there continue to be some countries that can’t immediately enjoy the benefits of an in-country Point-of-Presence. Fortunately, Google has worked with Symantec engineers to create Localization Zones to deliver a better user experience to these underserved countries.
Localization Zones allow the Symantec Cloud SWG to request content in a manner that content providers think is coming from the user’s home country. Consequently, users get web content localized in a familiar way (e.g. language). Simply put, this delivers a native user experience in terms of both performance and localization but secured by Symantec. It’s all automatic and available to all customers at no extra charge, with nothing for end users or administrators to configure.
Recently, the Localization Zone capability has been extended to Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Bahrain, Columbia, Croatia, and Serbia. This enhancement ensures a much better user experience for customers in these countries using the web.
